Reading and Number Partners

I find volunteering with the reading scheme so rewarding. Giving up just an hour and a half a week is enough to see a child’s reading and vocabulary improve significantly, and their confidence grow. This in turn improves their relationships and encourages inclusion. The impact this can have is compelling.

Liberty volunteers provide support to develop literacy and numeracy skills in inner city schools, a short walk from our 20 Fenchurch Street HQ. The Reading and Number scheme is organized and run by Lloyd’s as part of the Lloyd’s Community Programme (LCP).

Established in 1989, the Lloyd’s Community Programme is one of the longest-running business volunteering initiatives in the City of London. The LCP encourages volunteering and acts as a catalyst for the Lloyd’s market to empower people in our neighbouring London communities to achieve their potential.

Through the LCP, a wide range of volunteering opportunities are offered across the Lloyd’s market to support local communities and equip young people with employability skills; which feeds into the Lloyd’s talent priority, aiming to attract and retain a diverse workforce that will bring innovation to the insurance sector.
